A solo dance film on the Japanese colonial period. Inspired by the ritual of circling a cup during ancestral jesa, it begins by tracing the rim of a jar with a brush dipped in red paint to honor the victims. Instead of fast technique, it relies on grounded, floor-based movement and the tension of held breath to express the heavy atmosphere and oppression of the era.
ONE LIGHT, ONE NATION
A solo dance film about the hopes and dreams of independence activists and patriots who wished for liberation during the Japanese colonial era. Like a bird beating its wings before taking flight, not yet able to fly freely, the choreography uses forward-reaching, expansive motions to express the nation’s power, passion, and hope as it pushes forward.
YOUR LETTER
A solo dance film about new beginnings and recovery. Set right after liberation like spring following a harsh winter, it captures a new start that still feels unfamiliar and daunting, taking that first step to reclaim our identity as Koreans after a brutal era and begin writing our own new history.
BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY
A solo dance film about the vitality of our reclaimed country and cultural identity after liberation. Using the sogo, it captures our living culture and Korean tradition through quick footwork and light, rhythmic percussive strikes.
